National Young Reader's Day

There were so many amazing guests, and so many memorable moments that it would be impossible to post them all on this blog. Instead I have decided to post another slide show of pictures.

Before I give you a slide show, I want to at least post the one picture of our two most honored guests together.

And here is the slideshow: (If it is not already playing through the pictures, then click the triangle to get it started.)

Ground Breaking Ceremony 2007

We celebrated the Ground Breaking Ceremony this year with sweet tea, slaw, potato salad, baked beans, and loads of pork.

It was wonderful, and celebrated the way any good southern ground breaking ceremony should be celebrated. We heard from Mark Hatfield, Buzz Baker, and Jill.

The vision was shared, and we are eagerly looking forward to watching God provide.

Here is a short slideshow of pictures. If it isn't already playing through the pictures, click the triangle to get the photo album started.

Operation Christmas Child

What is Operation Christmas Child?
"Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes and the Good News of God's love. This program of Samaritan's Purse provides an opportunity for people of all ages to be involved in a simple, hands—on missions project while focusing on the true meaning of Christmas—Jesus Christ." (Description from the Samaritan's Purse Website)
Here at BRCA, we would like to invite you and your child to join this year's Operation Christmas child project. This project is a life-changing outreach of Samaritan's Purse, founded by Franklin Graham, which brings joy and demonstrates God's love to millions of needy girls and boys through gift filled shoe boxes.

Thousands of organizations participated in last year's collection, and more than 7.6 million shoe boxes were delivered to hurting children in some 105 nations worldwide. These children live in difficult, even desperate circumstances, and their faces light up when they open boxes to find treasures packed just for them.

As wonderful as these expressions of kindness may be, Operation Christmas child is ultimately about sharing with children the true and lasting treasure - the message of God's greatest gift to mankind through His son, Jesus Christ. Many thousands of children and family members have committed their hearts to Christ as a result of this unique outreach.

Our Goal this year is to collect at least 100 gift filled shoe boxes!

When is Operation Christmas Child?

We will be having an informative Chapel this Friday the 26th. Since the National Collection Week for Operation Christmas Child is November 12 - 19, Blue Ridge Christian Academy will have their boxes due on November the 14th.

What do I need to do?

How can you and your child become involved to help us reach our goal?

  • Pack a gift-filled shoe box!
  • Send at least $7.00 to cover the cost of shipping for one box, more if you can.
  • Pray for the salvation of the families and children that will receive the boxes.
Click the picture to the right to see the directions on how to pack a gift box a little closer.

Also, here is a link for the box labels with some directions.

We 3rd grade Kings

Here is the 3rd Grade Class showing off their Egyptian Crowns.

They just finished studying the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt under King Narmer (Menes).

King Narmer placed the red crown of the Lower Egyptian King on top of his white crown when he gained control of all of Egypt.

Here is the other 3rd grade group showing off their crowns.

See You At The Pole 2007

Here is a short collection of pictures from See You At The Pole. At Blue Ridge Christian Academy, prayer plays a hugely important role. A special day like this only gives us one more opportunity to engage in this communication with God as a group.

9th Bible Class

The assignment was to write a hypothetical e-mail to a hypothetical friend. They were to use facts that they picked up in class. Here is an example paper that was written by Miss Boone, one of the 9th graders.

Check out the article...

GoUpstate.com recently posted an article on the internet featuring our school, and our very own Jill Bird!

The article is titled Couple soars South, starts Blue Ridge Christian Academy and was written by Christina Wilson. Here is a short clip:
Ask founder Jill Bird what led her and her husband E.J. to the Carolina foothills to start Blue Ridge Christian Academy and the short answer is, "My dog chewed a couch cushion."

Take Captive Every Thought Slide Show

In our very first upper school chapel we were able to take advantage of the new projector. Here is the school's scripture song via PowerPoint:

Laid Back

We have a real "laid back" atmosphere here at Blue Ridge Christian Academy.

Here we are at a teacher's meeting. A very important occasion with several pressing items to discuss, yet we have allowed Pitch (the "school dog") to join us in this prestigious meeting.

He had been away from the Principal for too long this particular day, so once he was allowed to join us, she immediately began to show some love and kindness towards him. (Just as she does with all of her students.)

Of course she, being the multi-talented principal that she is, did not skip a beat and continued on with the teacher's meeting. I snapped this picture with my camera phone just moments before Miss Buchanan gave Jill a helping hand foot.

I just needed to capture this memorable occasion.
